One of the last things we did at Lonely Mountain Park was ride the zipline. On the way in, I had unofficially made it my goal to get as many people to do it as possible on the way out. The issues were cost and comfort zones. A number of people, including Russ the older Assistant Principal, were up for it from the beginning. But others really wanted the price to drop or to make sure it was safe.
So with a large group hanging out behind us, Tian and I got to work bargaining with the operators. They were originally asking for 60 Yuan (about $10) each person. Ridiculous we said. We told them that they needed to cut their price in half or risk losing 10 riders worth of business. They wouldn’t go for it. That’s when Tian had the idea of going two at a time, which clearly the zipline was made to do. So we made another offer. 60 Yuan per zipline ride (30 Yuan per person). They went for it, and this ended up solving the issues of nearly the entire group. In all 10 people went! The zip line landed us all right near the parking lot where our car was waiting.
