Now I know that Tsinghua University may not be as exciting of a fantasty realm to enter as the ravaged world of Azeroth, but there is plenty of “magic” that happens here. So I invite all of you, not just you RPG lovers out there, to create a teacher character and enter my World of Workraft.
We’ll start the adventure just inside the “Front Portal.” At this point, each teacher… ahem…player has a decision to make about which path to take. But the priority is clear – preparation for the day’s quest. One choice is to visit “The Oracle” (a.k.a “Information Desk”) slightly to the left. A second choice is to rotate about 135 degrees to left and walk about 10 paces to “The Armory” (a.k.a. “Supply Room”) where you can trade your “Guan Xi Points” (connections) to get items like white board markers or a laptop computer for use on your classroom adventure.
A third option is to go up the staircase to “The Workshop” (a.k.a. “teacher’s office”), which is where one can make copies, answer emails, find a snack, talk to colleagues, and complete various other administrative work necessary for the upcoming day’s quest.
Once a player is ready, the classroom quest can begin. There are two directions to take. The old world of classrooms is ten paces to the north of the front portal and down a dark passageway. The new world of classrooms, is down a long bare hallway to the right. Beware that once you descend the staircase, you are “in the game” and likely to run into students wandering about.
You now know the basic layout of my World of Workraft. The next tutorial will be on navigating “The Battlefields” (also known as “The Classrooms”). Good luck on your quest.
* My apologies to anyone who actually plays World of Warcraft for butchering the references and using stereotypical names for game locations. I admit that I am not “of the world.”
