Summer Celebration

The past week has been full of major events, all of which have been part of my saying goodbye to Breakthrough Saint Paul. Last Friday, it was the toast and roast. Thursday was my goodbye to students during ASM. Today it was my last Celebration as a BSP staff member.

Well, it is safe to say that this year’s Celebration was one of the best so far. Dinner was great yet again, and the decorations and displays impressive as ever. The students – all wearing their new BSP t-shirts and performing in front of a packed Nicholson Center – were fantastic on stage in everything they did. The acts were all unique, short, and polished. Both song and dance routines (students and faculty) went off fabulously, the end of show remarks were well crafted and delivered, and Jenny’s slideshow was completely unbelievable. Students, teachers, and staff alike shared hugs and tears over dessert.

For Celebration Jenny's science class made a video demonstrating what they did this summer to the tune of "Boom De Ya Da."

To see the full “Boom De Ya Da” video, go to Jenny’s website and click the “BSP:  Boom De Ya Da” link on the right.  I can’t link directly to it because it is located on You Tube, and the Chinese internet doesn’t allow me to link anything directly to You Tube.

When Celebration is done right, it provides a climactic end to the summer and leaves everyone involved exhausted but also wanting more. While great for students coming back to the school year program, it was extra tough on me this year. But overall, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect capstone to my fifth summer at BSP. It was Breakthrough at its best.

Celebration takes a lot of energy. See?

I was honored to receive a wonderful gift from the BSP faculty and staff. It was a meta-picture (a large picture comprised of many smaller pictures) all taken during summer 2009. Take a look at it below.
